A Short Reflection

Throughout my time in JRN 212 I have learned so many new and useful skills. I have done amazing things that I didn’t even know I was able to do. I have made podcasts, videos, infographics, and I have written about things that I found interesting and that I am truly passionate in. My Infograph was based on school food and how many students believed we needed a change in that way that our school feeds us. This was a truly eye opening project, I was able to learn how to use a new website and was able to see through my peers eyes what they thought about the schools food. It felt great to bring awareness about something that I was passionate about. Our second project this year was out list articles and I chose to write about 5 way to decorate your dorm on a cheap budget. I had so much fun writing and doing the research for this article. I loved my topic and felt so confident in my writing and research that I had it published in the schools newspaper. After doing this project I learned that there was so much more to list articles and I learned how helpful and resourceful they really are. Our next projects in class were the podcast. In a group of 4 I set out to make a podcast that was relatable to all students especially freshman. Our podcast was born Dear Future Freshman, I loved making this podcast so much because I was able to talk about the stuff in college that I loved/hated with a group of people. I also enjoyed making these podcast because I knew that whoever was going to listen to it was going to feel so much better going into there first year of college and I knew that older college students would be able to laugh and relate with us. Learning to use the microphones was difficult but a necessary skill to learn. I edited our second episode and had so much fun learning all the fun things I could do with editing. Including in fun sounds and intro music was amazing to learn. Our last project was to make an introduction video to West Chester University’s Quad. I teamed up with another class mate. We both carefully picked out video clips of West Chester’s campus that we thought best represented the school. I picked out an upbeat song and we both learned how to color correct and stabilize some of the shaky dark videos. This semester in journalism has been the most fun informative semester ever. I plan on continuing to use all the tools that I have learned in this class.
